Tsum Valley Trek: A Journey Through Nepal's Untouched Wilderness

Being one of the most remote areas of Nepal, Tsum Valley is considered a well-preserved and untouched region. Here you can get a great chance to explore the beautiful region surrounded by marvelous views of stunning Himalayas including:

Itinerary

We are almost closer to Tibetan Border. From here, we walk past the Tibetan landscape and climb up to the Mu Gumpa. Then visit to the monastery and make visit to the Dhephu Doma Gompa as well. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

You are welcomed in airport by our Sunrise Adventure Trek representative and then transfer to the hotel and will give shortly brief further details of the trip program. You can roam around the city if we have enought time.

Trekking back through Chhule and Phurbe, we arrive at Burgi Village. Burgi village is small but beautiful and we can climb up to Milarepa’s cave which is also known for its mesmerizing glimpses of Poshyop Glacier, Kipu Himal and Churke Himal. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

After breakfast you will visit World Heritage Sites in the Kathmandu Valley including Swayambhunath Stupa / Monkey Temple, Bauddhanath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple and many Durbar Squares.

Persisting on the trekking, we enjoy the green nature and slowly descend to Chhokang Paro again. And giving continuity to our trek, we descend to Gho from where we arrive at the bridge over Sarpu Khola. And trekking from the lower Tsum valley take you to Chumling. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

From Kathmandu, we take drive to Arughat. Through the Dhadingbesi and dirt road followed up by beautiful greenery scenery, we reach Arughat, our trek starting point. Arughat is a town and divided in two parts with river known as Budhi Gandaki. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Continuing trek to Lokpa we travel to the south, through the flat trail. Enjoying the gorgeous Samba falls, we finally arrive to Philim. From Philim village, a famous trekking trail, Ganesh Himal Base Camp Trek passes. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Following the Budhi Gandaki, We trek to Soti Khola. Today’s trekking is through the low country which is followed up by rice paddies and rural villages. Then after climbing Kyoropani, we descend to the Sundi Khola. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Through Jagat and Tatopani, we descend down to Sirsibas and reach to Jagat. And descending further, we reach to Yaruphant from where the trekking continues to Dobhan. And arriving to Tatopani, we can enjoy hot spring and relax. And after bath, we continue our trek to Khorlabasi. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Today we trek to Machha Khola following the route of Budhi Gandaki. During the trek, we climb over a big rock from where we descend to the bank of Budhi Gandaki. Then, we trek uphill through steep rocky trail and reach Gurung village of Labishe and then reach Machha Khola for overnight stay. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Our trail for today crosses through the Tharo Khola which flows in a rocky ravine. From there, we head downward and reach Machha Khola village. Walking from there, we follow the Budhi Gandaki River and reach to the Gurung Village of Labubesi. After that, we pass two waterfalls which are on the side of a cliff and continuing forward, we reach to Khursane. Finally, after crossing Sal forest, we arrive at Soti Khola. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Trekking to Jagat is our goal today. We cross the Machha Khola, arrive village of Khola Bensi and hot spring at Tatopani. Then cross suspension bridge, then cross the forest which leads to teahouse at Doan. After short trek of crossing bridge, we climb high path that leads to Jagat for Overnight Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Trekking for today starts from the ridge of Kyorpan; descends down to the cascading waterfall and lead us to Arkhet. After that, we leace Budhi Gandaki Valley and arrive at Sante Bazaar from where we pass hydroelectric plant and follow the stone streets which leads us to Arughat Bazaar. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

We climb rocky trail through ridge to Salleri and descend to reach Sirdibas. The valley widens a bit and continues trail up, leading us to Ghatta Khola which we cross through hanging bridge. The trail passes through school as well which are made by Japanese and then through the forest, we reach Chisopani. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

We leave Arughat for our Drive to Kathmandu. Along the way you can see green hills, mountains, farming terraces and villages on the both sides of the road. And for our successful trekking completion, we will have farewell dinner as celebration. Meals included: dinner by our side and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Our journey for today passes through beautiful waterfall and enters the pine forest. From there, we descend down the Tsum Valley, which further leads us to pine and rhododendron forest. Continuing the trail we can see beautiful mountain views of Himalchuli (7893m) and Boudha Himal. Then we further descend to Lungwa Khola and climb difficult trail through pine and rhododendron forest reach Gumlung and then to Chumling, after crossing Siyar Khola. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

For departure day, you can either safely make return journey to home or you can join for another exciting adventure. And according to flight schedule you will be escorted to airport approximately 3 hours earlier to catch flight to your next destination.

Our trekking begins with the crossing of the suspension bridge. Along the way we get great view of Ganesh Himal and crossing another village leads us to Gho village. Then after climbing up to Tsum, it takes us to Chhokangparo and you can enjoy views of Himalchuli (7893m) and Ganesh Himal (7140m). Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

While trekking to Chhokangparo, we have to be careful about altitude sickness. And the trail is through suspension bridge leading to Rachen Gompa and we continue forward to the well managed village Lar, Phurbe and Pangdun. Further continuing, we climb upstream and cross bridge that lead us to Nile Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Frequently Asked Question

  • Trekking Group Size

    We organize trekking to Tsu Valley in Manaslu region for any number of people. If the group consists of more than 16 pax, we will split the group and arrange accordingly. We will assign one trek leader, one assistant leader for the group of four pax and porters (one porter between two members ) to carry members luggage. This arrangement ensures that the group can still go ahead as scheduled itinerary despite any member gets sick on the way in the trekking.
  • Experience and Health Requirements

    Tsum Valley trekking is considered a moderate trek suitable for those who can hike for 5 – 7 hours a day. Obviously hiking in the high altitude will not be so easy rather physically more demanding, however our itinerary is scheduled for the proper acclimatization while gradually gaining the altitude in the trekking. It will be advisable to have some walking and hiking or other outdoor activities for more than two weeks which will contribute to comfortable accomplishment in reaching Tsum valley. No technical skills or use of crampons are required for this trekking. It is highly recommended for the trekkers to consult with the doctors before coming for this trekking. Trekkers who have asthma, allergy or any other diseases related to hurt, lungs should take more precaution for this trekking.
  • Travel Insurance

    Trekkers need to have traveling insurance which covers the comprehensive expenses that might incur due to medical issues or accidents (this includes air ambulance, helicopter rescue, and medical treatment costs). Insurance companies in Nepal do not provide travelling insurance for the foreigners and the trekkers need to get the travelling insurance from one of the international insurance companies. Sunrise Adventure Trek will have accident insurance for the trekking staff.
  • Accommodations

    Accommodation in Kathmandu will be arranged on twin sharing basis on BB plan except the extra cost for the single supplement (depending on the room availability ) according to the choice of the standard of the hotels before and after the trekking. Accommodation during the trekking will be arranged at standard teahouses/ lodges with unheated rooms with wooden beds and foam mattresses on twin sharing basis. The trekkers will have to share washing and toilet facilities. If the trekker is a solo traveler, he/she will have to share a room with the trekker of same sex.
  • Meals

    Trekkers are provided three meals a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner) during Tsum valley trekking. They can enjoy wide variety of food from typical Nepali food, Tibetan food to all types of international cuisine (Continental, Italian, and Indian.). Unlike other trekking companies, Sunrise AdventureTrek allows trekkers to choose the food from the menu at the hotel / lodges in the trek. When the group is too big for the hotels/ lodges to provide individual dishes, set menu will be arranged in most places. We use the lodges / hotels which serve hygienic, nutritious and good food for the trekkers for them to get enough energy for the hiking.
  • Acclimatization

    Any trekker can get altitude sickness while trekking in the high altitude despite strong physically fitness. What is important is giving enough time for the proper acclimatization for the trekking. Sunrise Adventure Trek has planned the itinerary with gradual altitude gain giving enough time for acclimatization for the trekkers. Hiking slowly specially in the high altitude help prevent AMS ( Acute Mountain Sickness ). If anyone feels dizzy, suffer palpitation or severe headaches and loss of appetite, he / she will be moved to the lower altitude immediately or arrange the helicopter rescue in the severe case of AMS and the client has to pay for it
  • Equipment and Packing List

    A variety of clothing is necessary for the Tsum Valley trek. While choosing the equipment trekkers need give emphasis on two simple aspects: Lightweight and Functional. The items should be lightweight, dependable, and adaptable to a variety of extreme weather conditions. The quality of the trekking equipment you choose has a lot to do with how warm, dry, and safe you will remain. For this reason you have to be critical of quality and the proper fit of clothing.

  • Porter Care

    We are strongly committed to the porters rights. We make sure that they are well paid and have the proper clothing, foot ware and shelter. We are aware that no porter should be asked to carry a load that is too heavy for their physical abilities and the weight limit should be adjusted for altitude, weather and trail condition. We request our members not to have more than 15 kg weight of luggage to give to the porters. Porters who become sick while in the trekking are treated with high priority just like the other trekking staff or the members. If needed helicopter is sent and rescued in case of sever condition of sickness or accident. All porters are insured for sickness and accident.
  • Season

    Nepal, as a tourist destination is good for all seasons, however, the best seasons for trekking to Manaslu region are Spring (March – May) and Autumn (mid Sept. – mid Dec. ). Trekking in autumn season is noted for clear weather and excellent views of silvery mountains against blue sky. It gets colder towards the end of December. This trek can be done in any month except January and February.
