Overview

Mount Everest is the highest point on Earth, which is 8,848.86 meters, and to view this mountain in real life is a dream of many individuals. However, walking to base camp may require days and be quite exhausting. That's why the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour is such a great option. It allows you to experience the beauty of the Himalayas in an easier manner.

Instead of walking for days, you can fly over stunning places like the green hills of Kathmandu, the famous airstrip at Lukla, the bustling Sherpa town of Namche Bazaar, and the peaceful Tengboche Monastery, while also seeing glaciers like the Khumbu Glacier and, of course, the mighty Mount Everest from above. The journey begins from Kathmandu and quickly takes you deep into the Everest region, where every moment offers incredible views.

On the journey, the helicopter makes several essential stops, among them the most suitable one being the Kala Patthar, one of the most suitable locations to view Everest at a closer distance. It is also possible to see the Everest Base Camp below, and other surrounding mountains such as Lhotse and Nuptse. This is usually possible by a short stay in Hotel Everest View, where one can have breakfast with a view of the snowy mountains, an ideal place to relax and still have the adventure.

Although the tour takes just approximately four to five hours, it is well arranged in such a way that you can visit all these iconic sites without wasting a lot of time at high altitude. The helicopters are modern and flown by experienced pilots, ensuring a safe and smooth journey, even in mountain conditions. The main attraction of this tour is that it allows you to visit popular places such as Lukla, Namche Bazaar, Kala Patthar, and Everest Base Camp in just one trip, which could have taken weeks on a trek to reach. It is an ideal option for travellers who wish to explore the greatest of the Everest region in a brief, comfortable, and memorable manner.

Is this short Everest helicopter tour for you?

This is a tour for individuals who love to explore the world, spend time in nature, and reminisce about it. It can be a huge remedy for people who are short on time but want to tour Everest Base Camp. People who love adventure, thrills, and mountains should definitely pick this. For many, it may also serve as therapy. Here, one will go through numerous checkpoints and settlements where they can witness unique settlements among Sherpa communities like Lukla, Phakding, Namche Bazar, Khumjung, Tengboche, Dingboche, and Gorak Shep.

Things to consider about the transportation or flights

Flights to Lukla are mostly early morning departures since the weather in the mountains is usually stable at that time. The Kathmandu-Lukla airline in itself is an exciting 25-30-minute flight through the spectacular Himalaya mountain ranges. By chance, there could be a possible wait for a long delay due to unpredictable flight timing. There could be various causes of delay, such as bad weather or heavy air traffic. Our advice for you is to manage additional time or a day in the itinerary. This time helps travellers manage possible flight disruptions and prevents missing international flights if Lukla flights are delayed or cancelled. Second, you can utilise that time to travel around the famous places in your vicinity.

In short, the helicopter tour is safe and well-managed, but being aware of these transportation and flight factors will help you stay prepared and make the most of your experience.

Distance to cover in this Tour:

This helicopter tour takes about 4-5 hours to complete. We pass through several stops. So, in the journey:

  • Kathmandu to Lukla is about 136 km. It generally takes about 25-30 minutes to complete this part. Upon reaching, we will take a short break in Lukla until we get on for another stop.
  • Namche to Lukla is about 27.5 km. In a helicopter, it usually takes about 3 minutes.
  • Another is Lukla to Everest Base Camp, which takes 10 minutes and is about 38 km.

Best and Least Ideal Time for Everest Helicopter Tour

The Everest Helicopter Tour depends a lot on weather and visibility, so choosing the right time is very important for the best experience.

Best Time to Do the Everest Helicopter Tour

Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the best seasons. The seasons in these months are mostly predictable and the skies are clear and provide you with a perfect view of Mount Everest and other neighbouring mountains such as Lhotse and Ama Dablam. The mountains appear crisp and precise in their appearance, and the risk of flight delays or cancellations are significantly reduced. During these seasons, the average temperatures in the higher places in the Everest region range normally from -5°C to 5 °C, whereas at the observation spots such as Kala Patthar, the temperatures may go down to -10 °C to -15 °C.

Note: Flights in the early morning are also the best of all. The flight before 9 AM tends to be smooth and the most viewable. And this is the optimum moment to have a safe and visually stimulating helicopter adventure in the Himalayas.

Least Ideal Time for the Helicopter Tour

This tour is not the best during the monsoon season (June to August). Flights are often subjected to heavy rainfall, heavy clouds and poor visibility and many tours are delayed or cancelled. Flights are generally not allowed to see the mountain views due to the presence of clouds. The average temperature in the Everest region varies at mid and high altitudes, approximately between 10 °C and 18 °C during the monsoon season (June to August).

Late in winter (end of December to early February) is also not the best. Even though the sky may be quite clear at times, the temperatures at the higher areas may drop to -15°C -25 °C, the strong winds, the extreme cold and the occasional snowfall can make flying uncomfortable, and sometimes this can limit the chances of landing at some places like Kala Patthar.

Peak Hours and Normal Hours for Everest Helicopter Tour

The timing of the Everest Helicopter Tour is one of the most important factors that decides how clear, smooth, and successful your flight will be. Since the Everest region has rapidly changing mountain weather, pilots always prefer flying when conditions are stable and visibility is at its best.

Best and Peak Flying Hours (Early Morning Window)

The best and most certain time to fly is between 6:00 AM and 10:00 AM. This is the most successful and safe time of the day to carry out helicopter operations in the Himalayas and this period is considered to be in the early morning hours.

The weather at this time is normally fair, the winds are not very strong and the skies are clearer as compared to later in the day. This provides you with the optimum views of Mount Everest and other associated mountains such as Lhotse and Ama Dablam. Landing sites like Kala Patthar are also safer and more stable in the morning, and therefore, take off and land is much easier.

Due to such optimum conditions, the majority of helicopter tours are arranged during this brief morning time. It is also the busiest period since operators would attempt to accomplish all high-altitude flights prior to the weather starting to change.

Normal Hours (Late Morning to Early Afternoon)

Normal working hours are usually between 10 AM and about 2:00 PM, depending on weather conditions. Flight at this period is still possible, but the weather is more unpredictable than in the early morning.

This period of the day is also known as a flexible time frame instead of a time schedule. It can be used by travellers who are in moderately busy seasons when the early morning slots are already occupied or when weather conditions change slightly later in the day. Nevertheless, passengers should always be ready for potential changes, since safety is the first priority in the Himalayan flights.

Trip Information

How does this Helicopter tour work out?

In a nutshell, this helicopter tour of Everest Base Camp begins very early in the morning at Kathmandu. Our employee will pick you up at your hotel and bring you to the airport, and the team will assist you with the simple check-in and preparation. After a short while, the helicopter takes off to Lukla and in less than 30 minutes, you arrive at this well-known mountain airstrip. Here will be a brief refuelling stop and you will be able to make a quick tour around the place, visit local markets and understand the way of life of the Sherpa people before resuming the journey.

The flight starts at Lukla and then enters further into the Everest region, flying over villages such as Phakding, Namche Bazaar, Tengboche and Gorak Shep. When flying high, you can clearly see the changing landscape, rivers and trekking trails below.

Depending on the number of people and circumstances, there may be a brief landing at Pheriche, since at Pheriche we should ensure that the group is arranged as required and then move on to the Everest Base Camp and other nearby famous points such as Kala Patthar, Gokyo, etc.

On a private tour, you will typically have an opportunity to land at Kala Patthar (approximately 10-15 minutes), where you can have a spectacular view of Mount Everest and the other peaks. Thereafter, the helicopter will land at Hotel Everest View, where you will be able to rest and have breakfast with spectacular mountain views. After the stop is finished, you will fly back to Kathmandu, and the journey will be completed with another short and scenic flight.

Updates regarding the flight in the Everest Region for the helicopter tour

The Everest Base Camp helicopter tour is still operating, but it has gone through several important changes in recent years. These updates mainly focus on safety, protecting the fragile mountain environment, and reducing disturbance in the Everest region. Because of this, the experience today is slightly different from how it used to be in the past, especially in terms of landing points and flight control.

  • One of the biggest updates is related to landing rules in high-altitude areas. Earlier, helicopters often landed at Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar for sightseeing and photography. However, these areas became heavily affected by noise, wind disturbance, and crowding, especially during peak seasons.
  • Now, commercial helicopter landings at Everest Base Camp are restricted, and landings at Kala Patthar are also highly limited. Instead, helicopters now use safer and more controlled landing points such as Pheriche, Syangboche, and Hotel Everest View.
  • Nevertheless, Pheriche, Syangboche, and Hotel Everest View definitely give you exquisite mountain views and a top-tier experience. On the other hand, reducing pressure or noise pollution in sensitive zones.

Note: Landings at Kalla Patthar are only for the private tourers. For this reason, it is highly limited.

As of 2025, local authorities in the Khumbu region have also increased restrictions on general helicopter movement with the objective of reducing unnecessary sightseeing traffic and prioritising essential services. Such as rescue and medical evacuation.

What does it do?

It tries to convey that flights are allowed, but they must follow fixed routes, limited landing permissions, and stricter timing regulations. Insured for unnecessary sightseeing landings in sensitive zones or areas. The helicopters now use designated landing points, such as Pheriche, Syangboche and so on, for controlled flights and operations. This simultaneously decreased the disturbances for the trekkers and made rescue and evacuation services more convenient.

Types of Everest Basecamp Helicopter Tour

We offer two types of EBC Helicopter Tour. They are described as follows:

  1. Joining Other Group (Shared Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour)

It is especially suitable for solo travellers or small groups who want the Everest experience without paying for a private helicopter. The shared Everest helicopter tour is the most affordable and accessible means of enjoying the Everest region. In this alternative, you will be sharing the helicopter with other travellers who will be travelling along the same route as you are.

This form of tourism normally begins in the morning in Kathmandu. When everybody in the group is ready, the helicopter takes off to the Everest area, on a pre-planned path. Most of the routes involve the sightseeing of significant settlements and landmarks such as Lukla, Namche Bazaar and valleys before ascending to greater heights.

This is a common flight; therefore, the schedule and destinations will be pre-planned and have to be convenient to all the group members. The helicopter will include brief technical stops along the way, including at Lukla to fuel, at Pheriche to balance weight or passenger changes in response to the conditions at different altitudes.

Among other things, one ought to know that the landing on high altitude locations is normally restricted in mixed tours. Due to these regulations, stops at Kala Patthar do not happen. You can experience this landing in private helicopter tour.

Irrespective of these constraints, the common helicopter tour is a great alternative for various travellers. As tourers, you will certainly see amazing aerial shots of Mount Everest and the mountains around it, glaciers, and valleys, all within a few hours.

Landings in the Shared Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour

Lukla – First Landing

The journey in a shared helicopter tour usually begins with a quick landing at Lukla after departing from Kathmandu. This is the first stop in the Everest region and mainly serves technical purposes like refuelling and flight checks. The stop is short, but it also gives you your first real view of the mountain environment, hills, and surrounding valleys, creating an exciting start to the journey.

Pheriche – Group Adjustment Stop

After Lukla, the helicopter continues deeper into the Himalayas and often lands at Pheriche. The main purpose here is operational rather than sightseeing. This mid-altitude settlement is commonly used for managing passenger weight balance and adjusting group arrangements for safe high-altitude flying.

Depending on the number of members, the Everest Fly Over is carried out. At once, only 3 members are possible due to the weight limit at high altitude, which is about 240 kg. So, to sort this issue, flyovers are done in turn. Members are separated into their respective groups and led on the Everest flyover.

While they wait for the other group, travellers can take in the wide mountain valley views and observe how the landscape becomes more rugged as they move closer to the Everest zone.

Hotel Everest View – Scenic Landing

The last major landing is usually at Hotel Everest View, one of the most famous viewpoints in the region. Here, travellers usually spend some time relaxing, having breakfast or tea, and enjoying wide panoramic views of Mount Everest and nearby peaks. This stop is often considered the most comfortable and memorable part of the tour.

After this, they return to Kathmandu.

Second landing at Lukla (Optional)

While returning from Hotel Everest View, depending on conditions, there may be a short technical stop at Lukla before continuing back to Kathmandu. The return flight is smooth and gives you one last chance to enjoy the vast Himalayan scenery from above, bringing the journey to a calm and satisfying end.

  1. Private Base Camp Helicopter Tour

A private Everest Base Camp helicopter tour is about experiencing the Everest region in a more personal and comfortable way. Unlike shared flights, you are not limited by group schedules; this tour allows you to fully enjoy each moment, with the chance to land at key locations in the Khumbu region and take in the views without feeling rushed. And the overall trip can be slightly adjusted based on your needs and weather conditions. It gives you more time for photos, short walks, and simply enjoying the surroundings.

One of the biggest advantages of a private tour is better landing opportunities. Due to altitude and safety rules, helicopters with more passengers have stricter limits, but private flights with fewer people can land at high viewpoints like Kala Patthar. From here, you can enjoy some of the best close-up views of Mount Everest and the surrounding Himalayan peaks.

The tour also includes a stop at Hotel Everest. Throughout the journey, experienced pilots ensure a smooth and safe flight, and everything is arranged in advance. Therefore, you can simply enjoy the experience.

Although it costs more than a shared tour, a private Everest helicopter trip offers a much more flexible, peaceful, and memorable way to explore the Himalayas in a short time.

Landings in Private EBC Helicopter Tour

Lukla – First Landing

The private helicopter journey begins with a short flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. This is the main entry point to the Everest region. The helicopter makes a brief stop here, mainly for refuelling. During this time, you can step out, stretch a bit, and get your first real feel of the Himalayan surroundings.

Pheriche – Optional Landing

In Pheriche, landing is optional as it depends on the travellers in the private helicopter. If the weight is under the limit, then your personal group does not need to make a stop or necessary arrangements, and you may continue to fly higher.

But if your group is larger or has exceeded the limit for weight, then you need to make necessary arrangements for the members in a different group in order to fly higher. A group can consist of 3 members. After these small adjustments, the flight may continue for the Everest Flyover in turns.

Kala Patthar – High-Altitude Landing

This is the biggest advantage of a private tour. That is to land at Kala Patthar, depending on weather and permissions. This is one of the best viewpoints in the Everest region, offering close and wide views of Mount Everest along with nearby peaks such as Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Lhotse and so on. The stop here is usually short due to altitude, but it is often the highlight of the entire trip.

Permits required for the EBC helicopter Tour

The Everest helicopter tour is short and doesn’t involve trekking; you pass through protected mountain areas and local communities, so certain permits are required by the Nepalese authorities. The permits help them manage tourism, conserve the environment and support the development in their region. The permits are:

  • Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit

This is the main permit required to enter the Everest region, including areas like Everest Base Camp. The Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is mandatory for all visitors entering the national park zone, whether by trekking or by helicopter. It costs Rs 3000 (around 20 USD) per person.

  • Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Permit

This is a local permit required to enter and operate within the Khumbu region, including settlements like Namche Bazaar. It was introduced to support local infrastructure, tourism management, and community development. This permit ensures that tourism directly benefits the people living in the Everest region. It costs Rs 2000 – RS 3000 (around 13.5 – 20 USD) per person.

  • All the travellers are taxed Rs 500 (around 4 USD) as an airport tax.

Note: The good thing is that our Sunrise Adventure Trek will cover your expenses for all those permits and set it up for you.

What happens if the Everest Base Camp tour is delayed or cancelled?

The Everest Base Camp helicopter tour depends heavily on weather conditions and mountain safety rules, so delays or cancellations can sometimes happen. This is completely normal in the Himalayas, where visibility, wind and cloud cover can change quickly, especially in high-altitude regions like Everest Base Camp and nearby valleys.

If the flight is delayed due to weather or technical problems, then we will reschedule for the next available suitable time. Safety is the biggest concern, so flights only take off when conditions are stable enough for a safe journey.

There can also be situations for cancellations due to sudden weather changes or government flight restrictions for a certain time in the Everest region. If this happens, you will be offered a new date to reschedule your tour, based on your convenience and availability.

Things to consider for rescheduling, cancellation or postponement of the Helicopter tour

If you are to cancel or postpone your tour by any chance, please go through the following rules in order to make a successful attempt.

  • You can book in advance by paying a 40% amount of the total cost, which is about 13-15 days before the travel date, and the remaining balance can be settled after you arrive in Nepal.
  • For last-minute travellers, bookings are also possible, but they must be made 12-24 hours before arrival in Nepal. In such cases, the full payment is required at the time of confirmation.
  • If you decide to cancel your trip, the refund policy depends on how early the cancellation is made. Cancellations done 10-15 days before the tour are usually eligible for a full refund, but late cancellations closer to the travel date are not refundable due to fixed flight arrangements, permits, and reserved helicopter seats.
  • For rescheduling, you can change your travel date without extra charges if informed in advance. That is 10-15 days before the tour. However, changes made closer to the travel date may involve a small fee of about 100 USD, and very late (before 3 days) changes are not accepted because helicopter seats and flight schedules are already fixed.
  • In case you need to transfer your booking to another person, it is usually allowed if done at least 3 days before the trip date. These changes will include an additional handling fee (100 USD) since permits and passenger details need to be updated for flight approval.

Note: In case of any natural disaster, country restrictions/ instability that affects the tour. You may inquire with us. Nevertheless, if any of those events occur or it is confirmed that prevents the tour from happening on the specified date, then we will postpone your travel date safely to the nearest date possible without charging any money. Complete cancellations are also possible, but they must be made 13 days before the travel date.

In the cases where the Sunrise Adventure trek is not operational, our company will sincerely inform you and refund you the full money beforehand without wasting your time and waiting.

Essential safety measures for the Everest Basecamp Helicopter Tour

An Everest helicopter tour is a safe and well-managed journey, but because it takes place in high-altitude mountain conditions, passengers should follow some important safety guidelines. These simple precautions help ensure a smooth and enjoyable flight experience.

• Listen carefully to the crew and pilot

Always pay attention to instructions given by the pilot and ground crew. They will instruct you on seating, boarding, landing and safety procedures. However, it could be your first time on a helicopter, but with their tips, the ride is secure and enjoyable.

• Keep still and do not move unnecessarily.

It is recommended to sit during the flight with a seatbelt on. Balance can be impacted by sudden or unneeded motion within the helicopter.

• Wear mountain weather clothing.

The weather in the Everest region is cold and unpredictable, despite starting in Kathmandu under the mild weather. Warm clothes, a jacket that is windproof and loose clothes assist you in keeping warm in landings and outside breaks.

• Watch out effects of altitude.

The helicopter can attain very high altitudes within a short time which also covers locations near Mount Everest. Other passengers might experience mild altitude effects such as shortness of breath or dizziness. The main point is to remain calm and obey the crew in case of any discomforts.

• Keep hydrated and do not drink too much.

In this case, hydration even in a short-distance flight is essential in high-altitude conditions. Consumption of water is useful in alleviating fatigue. Alcohol or heavy meal should also be avoided before and during the tour to ensure that one is comfortable in the flight.

Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour Options from Kathmandu, Lukla & Beyond

When it comes to the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour, there are several starting points and route options depending on your time, budget, and travel plans. The following are the options:

Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour from Kathmandu

It is the least strenuous and most common method of enjoying the Everest region, particularly for tourists who desire splendid views without the extensive hiking. The trip starts at an early hour in the morning, Kathmandu and the atmosphere is mostly clear and the skies are favourable to flying. When the helicopter takes off you will have forgotten the hectic city and before long you will be flying over the serene, scenic hills of Nagarkot and the ancient region of Jiri. As you advance towards the Himalayas, the landscape transforms radically-hilly hills become rocky mountains, and you will begin to observe awe-inspiring mountains such as Ganesh Himal, Langtang Range and Gaurishankar coming out in the way.

The helicopter soon briefly lands in Lukla, which is one of the most renowned mountain airstrips globally. It is here that the flight proceeds to Everest and the views of glaciers, valleys and towering peaks are incredible as seen in the air. The main attractions of the tour are the landing on Kala Patthar where you can get out and have a close-up view of Mount Everest and the mountains around it. This will be accomplished by a visit to Hotel Everest View where you will be able to rest and enjoy the view before catching a flight back to Kathmandu. Upon landing, a transfer back to your hotel will normally take place and the whole process will be easy, comfortable and definitely memorable.

Helicopter tour from Lukla

This is a nice alternative when you desire a more affordable and not so complex experience in the Everest region. First, you board a domestic flight leaving Kathmandu to Lukla, which in itself is a thrilling journey with breathtaking mountain views. After reaching Lukla you can walk around the small town, visit the local lodges, shops and the infamous mountain airstrip. It will give you a taste of the experience of trekking in the Everest region, without having to go on a long hike.

Then, your helicopter adventure starts at Lukla and goes into the interior of the mountains closer to the base camp of Everest. You are already nearer to the Everest zone and therefore, the flight will be less stressful and less time-consuming than a flight that covers a long distance, Kathmandu to Everest. Before going back, you will still have a glimpse of gorgeous scenes of the Himalayas, glaciers and popular areas such as Kala Patthar and Everest. This option is normally cheaper due to the shorter distance and flight time; it is ideal for those who are already in the region or seek a quieter and easier ride.

Helicopter Tour to Gokyo Ri

In case you want a little variation of the typical Everest Basecamp path, the Gokyo Ri helicopter tour is another good option. This flight will fly you northwards to the less crowded and serene Gokyo Valley, which is also known to have beautiful blue-green lakes. On flying across the valley, you will find the beautiful Gokyo Lakes glimmering down the valley with the snow-covered mountains. The landscape here is more peaceful and untouched than the main Everest trail.

The helicopter then makes a landing in the Gokyo Ri which is one of the most favoured places to have a view in the Everest area. It is also a viewpoint that you can have large and open panoramic perspectives of gigantic mountains, such as Mount Everest, among other Himalayan giants. After spending some time taking in the views and photos, the helicopter flies back via Lukla and returns to Kathmandu. This is a five-hour trip, which makes it an ideal choice for people who seek a tranquil, picturesque, and a bit of unique Himalayan adventure.

Helicopter Flights from Namche Bazaar

Namche Bazaar, the centre of the Everest region, is where many trekkers arrive, its altitude being approximately 3,440 meters. It is a busy area which has cafes, stores and spectacular mountainous scenery; however, the farther one goes into the mountains, the more the hike might start to be difficult. Others opt not to proceed further on foot due to time constraints or due to the possibility of altitude sickness.

You can also use a helicopter directly back to Kathmandu out of Namche, or you can make your trip even more special. You do not have to stop there, and instead you can continue to fly to Everest Base Camp, have a landing at Kala Patthar to have a clear view of Everest and even stay at the Hotel Everest View. It would be a wonderful way to fill out your adventure - a little walking and the cosy and memorable helicopter adventure.

Helicopter Pickup from Gorak Shep (Near Everest Base Camp)

Gorak Shep is the last destination of trekkers who have already reached almost Everest Base Camp, and it is also very convenient to get a helicopter ride back. Many people opt to avoid the long walk back after days of high-altitude trekking and this is one of the options available to them so that they can make the return journey much easier and faster. It no longer takes days to hike back, but more like 90 minutes to Kathmandu.

On the way back, you may also visit Kala Patthar, one of the most ideal spots to view a close-up of Mount Everest. It is a wonderful farewell to your trip, a last panoramic view of the mountains--and then to fly away comfortably.

Helicopter Flight from Phakding

This flight is ideal for travellers who have begun their expedition at Lukla but choose not to go any further into the Everest region. Phakding is one of the peaceful villages on the trail where trekking can be replaced by a helicopter adventure without the need to go too high up the mountain.

In Phakding, you can board a helicopter to have aerial views of the Everest region, rivers, forest and the snow-covered mountains in the distant background. After the flight, you can choose to return either to Lukla or fly all the way back to Kathmandu, depending on your time and budget. It is an easy and easygoing method of enjoying the mountains without having to invest a lot of time on a lengthy walk.

Helicopter Flight from Syangboche to Lukla (or vice versa)

This is a short and scenic helicopter flight that’s perfect for travelers who just want to enjoy the beauty of the Everest region from above without going too far or spending too much time. It’s a quick ride, but the views are really impressive throughout the journey.

During the flight, you will be able to observe traditional Sherpa villages, beautiful monasteries, and deep valleys with tall mountains. The helicopter links Syangboche and Lukla, hence it is a convenient and flexible option to anyone who desires a hassle-free yet exciting air adventure in the Everest region.

Helicopter Flights from Dingboche

Private helicopter services are offered in Dingboche to trekkers who desire a more comfortable and faster mode of traversing the Everest region. The village of Dingboche is also located on the trekking route and here you are able to cut long hours of walking and instead use helicopter travel.

The Dingboche to Lukla flight is approximately 15-20 minutes, thus an easy and speedy way out of the trekking area. When flying from Kathmandu directly, the flight to Dingboche will be approximately an hour. This package is particularly handy to individuals who wish to conserve time and not exhaust themselves by walking back to the mountains, or just have a pleasant and scenic ride back to the mountains.

Helicopter Flight from Tengboche

Tengboche is a popular destination on the Everest trekking trail and frequently the junction of shorter treks in the area. It's famous for its mountain views and monastery, Here, most hikers stop here due to lack of time or mountain exhaustion.

In Tengboche, travellers can book a helicopter to continue their trip to the Everest Base Camp without walking any more. The ride will boost you through some of the most beautiful sceneries and even enable you to view some of the best places, such as Kala Patthar, where you can have close-ups of Mount Everest. It is also possible to visit Hotel Everest View on your way back to Lukla or Kathmandu. It is an easy and relaxed spot for enjoying the best of the Everest region and still having a section of the trekking experience.

FAQs about
the trip

Looking for an Everest Heli Tour?

Lukla is a Sherpa territory, yet it is crowded with thousands of trekkers during the season who are on their way to the Everest trek. Your mountain flight will give you the closest view of Mount Everest and its surrounding peaks. This tour will be a major highlight of your life adventures. Although the EBC Heli tour provides a dimensional vision of the mountains, its closeness would be the prime attraction of this flight. You can either do the EBC trek or enjoy the day EBC helicopter tour within a few hours.

The heli tour to massive Mt. Everest, surrounded by other mighty mountains, is the dominating feature here. If time allows, you can also do the Everest Panorama Trek. Another highlight of this flight is landing at the Tengboche Monastery, the Vatican of the Sherpas, known as the world-famous "Tigers of the Snows". The Monastery, recently rebuilt, is a "must" visit in the Everest region.

Moreover, you can experience the serenity and beauty of Mt. Everest and its neighboring Himalayas. The impressive blend of people and place, along with the fragility of the environment, makes this EBC Heli tour a lifetime luxury experience. Finally, savor the beauty of Everest, the tallest mountain in the world, and fly back to Kathmandu within the same day.

Can we land on top of Everest Base Camp?

At the Everest Base Camp, the normal sightseeing tours are not allowed on the helicopters. This is to ensure that the environment is protected and to prevent the disturbance of the climbers on Mount Everest. The helicopter goes above Base Camp to allow you to view the tents, glaciers and mountains in the air. Depending on what you purchased, it can be landed in Kala Patthar, offering excellent views.

Is a quick rescue possible in case of an emergency?

Yes, a quick rescue is possible in case of an emergency. We will arrange all the necessary stuff for the evacuation. An individual can be safely evacuated. But we do not pay for this. Additional charges are imposed on the individual who requires it. This can then be covered by the travel insurance if one has it.

Will there be oxygen cylinders in the helicopter if needed?

Oxygen cylinders are mandatory and always kept in the Helicopter in case of an emergency. Even though passengers may not need to use it, or it may not be of any use, spare oxygen cylinders are kept in the helicopter for safety purposes.

What happens if travel is not possible due to bad weather?

Safety always comes first in the Everest region, especially around Everest Base Camp, where the weather can change quickly. If the helicopter tour cannot operate due to bad weather, the flight is usually delayed or rescheduled for a safer time. If conditions don’t improve on the same day, your tour is rescheduled to the nearest possible date where everything is safe.

In most cases, you can simply choose another date or wait for better conditions, so the experience is not cancelled permanently.

What is the highest altitude achieved in this short helicopter tour?

The highest altitude reached in the Everest Base Camp helicopter tour is around 5,500 meters, at Kala Patthar. This is the closest and highest viewpoint where helicopters may land, based on your purchased tour type.

What about Environmental Rules on the EBC where we land?

You do not have much time to spend much time on the ground, but while you do, try to avoid plastic and wrappers as much as possible. You need to carry out your trash and not litter the surroundings. In this zone, the objective is to reduce plastic as much as possible. An individual could be severely punished if he or she is found to be damaging religious sites or monuments during the visit.

What about the food available in the landing spots?

Food availability during the Everest Base Camp helicopter tour depends on the landing point and the short time you have at each stop.

It is not possible to eat in Lukla and Pheriche because of the short time available. At Lukla, there are plenty of small hotels, bakeries, and cafés where you can get simple meals like tea, coffee, noodles, and breakfast items. However, since the helicopter stop here is usually very short, you normally do not have enough time to sit and eat a full meal.

Similarly, at Pheriche, food options are more basic. But again, the stop is mainly for technical or operational purposes, so eating here is usually not part of the plan due to limited time.

Now at the Everest Hotel, the view of food availability is much better. This is the main stop where travellers actually get time to relax and enjoy a proper meal or breakfast. The hotel offers a comfortable dining experience with options like a mix of Nepali, Indian, Japanese, and Continental dishes, so you can find both local meals like dal bhat and international options like pasta, sandwiches, and soups. Breakfast is very popular here, usually including eggs, toast, pancakes, porridge, and fresh coffee or tea, all enjoyed with a direct view of Mount Everest.
