Trip Summary

Annapurna Round with Tilicho Lake trekking is an incredible trek in the Annapurna region. Tilicho Lake, at 4,919 meters (16,138 feet), is one of the highest lakes on earth and lies in the Himalayas of the Annapurna range, Nepal. This trek begins in Kathmandu, continues with a drive to Besishar, and then a local jeep ride to Chame or Manang. The jeep drive shortens the trek and you will stay in trekking lodges along the way.

The trek passes through beautiful villages in the heart of the Annapurna region, including Thorong La Pass at 5,416 meters (17,769 feet), one of the highest passes in the Annapurna trek. You will traverse a variety of climates and landscapes, from subtropical to alpine, dense forests to snowy mountains. If time permits, you can also do the Annapurna Base Camp trek.

Enjoy the diverse flora and fauna and experience the unique cultures of different ethnicities such as Gurung, Magar, Thakali, Brahmin, and Chhetri. Beautiful rivers, stunning Himalayas, Manang at 3,519 meters, and Tilicho Lake will always welcome travelers. Tilicho Lake (4,949 meters/16,237 feet) is in the Manang district and is known as the highest lake trekking in the world, offering memorable moments. For a shorter tour, you can opt for the Annapurna Base Camp heli tour with amazing views of Mt. Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Manaslu.

During the trek, you will have an acclimatization period in Manang to adjust to the high altitude, which helps in crossing Thorong La Pass. After reaching Muktinath, you will feel more relaxed. Muktinath is a place of liberation, famous for both Hindu and Buddhist pilgrimages. The trek starts from Besishar and ends in Pokhara.

Trek through the Kaligandaki Gorge, the deepest gorge in the world, and visit Jomsom (2,743 meters/8,999 feet) and Muktinath (3,710 meters), which are key hubs for the Thorong Pass and Upper Mustang trek. Itinerary

After you arrive in Airport, our SAT representative will be there to pick you up and drop you off in designated location for overnight stay. You can take rest or read articles on trekking. At evening we will have a short briefing regarding the trip.

Kathmandu sightseeing trip will begin in the morning. You can either do it alone or join group we can arrange you car or bus. And in the evening trek preparation and small meeting is held to further literate you about the trekking routes, porters, guides, rules and necessary equipment. You get to observe many beautiful heritages in the valley with amazing architectures, temples and structures built by the ancient emperors like Pashupatinath Temple, Boudanath Stupa, Swabhunath stupa or the main three Durbar Squares.

Our journey will be around 6 hours of drive to Besisahar. And along the way you will be seeing giant White Mountains, rivers, green sceneries and stunning landscapes. Reaching at Besisahar you observe, the region is a small market with dense settlements surrounded by green hills. Next day, you observe the remote style of living life above the Besisahar. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Afterwards we will be trekking around an hour to reach Khudi. Khudi offers the first glimpses of Manaslu Range and then trek to Bahundada. And along the way we have to pass the typical local houses and diverse cultural and ethnic tribes while exchanging greetings (Namaste). Our route passes through subtropical forest and rice terraces of Sera. Then comes the 60m waterfall after passing Bhulbule and slowly we will be arriving to Ngadi Khola (river), which we will be crossing by suspension bridge. And finally route takes us gently upward to Bahundanda, an attractive village in the saddle of a long ridge at 1300m. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

After breakfast, we trek through steep trails reaching village of Syange. And after crossing several suspension bridges comes Chanje en-route Jagat. The most interesting thing to observe while trekking to Chamje is a waterfall. During the route we also observe some warm settlements of people from different ethnic communities with different cultures and traditions. Overnight stay in Chamje. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Our trek starts early in the morning through the steep uphill course of Marshyangdi River. Passing the farm lands and settlements of different communities we reach to the first village of Manang, Tal (1675m). Reaching at Manang Tal, we walk through the wide and flat valley with ups and downs which leads us to Dharapani (1890m). From Dharapani further trail leads us to the Bagarchhap welcomed by the stoned entrance. Bagarchap is a typical Tibet influenced village with apples and maize fields. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Climbing to Tyanja (2360m) and through the forest and river leading to Kopar and a little bit closer to reaching Chame, headquarter of Manang District. From here we can see great views of Annapurna II and come across two small hot springs. And you are sure to encounter a local community who are believed to be migrated from Tibet in the past and being highly influenced by the Tibetan culture. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

After the stay in Chame we pace forward crossing some narrow paths and dense forest. Right after the hours of walk, the steep and big rock (1500m.) of Paungda Danda rock can be seen. Crossing this rock can be an adventure before we reach to the accommodating area in lower pisang. The amazing landscapes and settlements of people from different communities are another main thing you get to observe while on the trek from Chame to Pisang. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

The Moments passing through Geru is excellent that offers us stunning landscapes and magnificent view of Mt. Annapurna and Pisang. Today we will be going to Barge monastery, also the biggest monastery of whole Manang. Walking on the upper trail of Manang district, takes us through the flat green plateau where you get to observe the grazing domestics and lifestyle of remote area people. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

To stay fit for further journey and atmospheric adaptation we take a day off here in Manang for acclimatization. For the whole day we will be doing some walk around the village viewing beautiful mountain sceneries. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

After acclimatization at Manang village our journey to Khangsar village begins through the western gates and river. Khangsar village is still in Tibetan style and knows as the Tibetan village of Nepal. So, here we observe the Tibetan cultures and then walking down the gorge, we pass through the panoramic views of Annapurna ranges. Along with this we explore the Tore monastery while trekking along the bank of Khangsar river. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Passing through the monastery we begin to conquer our destination. Through the high ridge,slopes and narrow valleys we ascend toward the line of ridge. New path leads us to high crest and descending thru screed slopes comes the main valley where its bottom is a brook. On the other side is Tilicho Base Camp (4200m). Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

It is better to start off early in the morning in order to avoid wing. It takes around 4 hours to reach Tilicho Lake, the highest lake of the world. Tilicho Lake is cold barren place and upon arrival you can witness the spectacular beauty of nature. And later return back to Base Camp. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

After breakfast, we follow the trail which is 4000 meters above the Khangsar village and passes thru old Khangsar. Then you will be trailing from unmarked territory and down to cross the river on an old bridge between Gumsang and Yak Kharka. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

This day we trek to the foot of Thorang La & we will have to climb uphill, cross a suspension bridge and ascend down a towering cliff. During the trek we are rewarded with the wonderful view of Mt. Gundang, Mt. Syagang, Thorung Peak & Mt. Khatungkang. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

From Thorang Phedi, we finally will be heading to the world’s highest pass, Thorang La Pass (5416m). From this elevated venue you are guaranteed to witness some magnificent views of Dhaulagiri ranges. And then trail ascends towards Chabarbu making our way to Muktinath in the evening. Muktinath is famous for shrines worshipped both by Hindus and Buddhists. Overnight stay in Muktinath. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Through the Ekle Bhatti and alongside the Kali Gandaki River we reach Jomsom. Jomsom is a large town and headquarter of Manang district with many facilities. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

From Jomsom we take flight to Pokhara. Time here in Pokhara can be spent relaxing or going up for adventure. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in a hotel.

For the return trip two options are available, you can either take easy 25 minute flight to Kathmandu or take longer 7 hours of scenic drive to Kathmandu, the choice is yours. Both the means are great with beautiful mountain views during flight and fascinating views of landscapes in drive. Meals included: dinner by our side and finally an overnight stay in hotel.

Last day, you can either safely make return journey to home or you can join for another exciting adventure with Sunrise Adventure Treks. And according to flight schedule you will be escorted to airport approximately 3 hours earlier of your departing time to catch flight to your next destination.

  • Trekking Group Size

    We organize trekking in Annapurna region for any number of people. If the group consists of more than 16 pax, we will split the group and arrange accordingly. We will assign one trek leader, one assistant leader for the group of four pax and porters (one porter between two members) to carry members luggage. This arrangement ensures that the group can still go ahead as scheduled itinerary despite any member gets sick on the way in the trekking.
  • Experience and Health Requirements

    Tilicho Lake trekking is considered a moderate trek suitable for those who can hike for 6 – 8 hours a day. Obviously hiking in the high altitude will not be so easy rather physically more demanding, however our itinerary is scheduled for the proper acclimatization while gradually gaining the altitude in the trekking. It will be advisable to have some walking and hiking or other outdoor activities for more than two weeks which will contribute to comfortable accomplishment in reaching there. No technical skills or use of crampons are required for this trekking. It is highly recommended for the trekkers to consult with the doctors before coming for this trekking. Trekkers who have asthma, allergy or any other diseases related to hurt, lungs should take more precaution for this trekking.
  • Travel Insurance

    Trekkers need to have traveling insurance which covers the comprehensive expenses that might incur due to medical issues or accidents (this includes air ambulance, helicopter rescue, and medical treatment costs). Insurance companies in Nepal do not provide travelling insurance for the foreigners and the trekkers need to get the travelling insurance from one of the international insurance companies. Sunrise Adventure Trek will have accident insurance for the trekking staff.
  • Accommodations

    Accommodation in Kathmandu will be arranged on twin sharing basis on BB plan except the extra cost for the single supplement (depending on the room availability) according to the choice of the standard of the hotels before and after the trekking. Accommodation during the trekking will be arranged at standard teahouses/ lodges with unheated rooms with wooden beds and foam mattresses on twin sharing basis. The trekkers will have to share washing and toilet facilities. If the trekker is a solo traveler, he/she will have to share a room with the trekker of same sex.
  • Meals

    Trekkers are provided three meals a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner) during Tilicho Lake trekking. They can enjoy wide variety of food from typical Nepali food, Sherpa food, and Tibetan food to all types of international cuisine (Continental, Italian, and Indian). Unlike other trekking companies, Sunrise Adventure Trek allows trekkers to choose the food from the menu at the hotel / lodges in the trek. When the group is too big for the hotels/ lodges to provide individual dishes, set menu will be arranged in most places. We use the lodges / hotels which serve hygienic, nutritious and good food for the trekkers for them to get enough energy for the hiking.
  • Acclimatization

    Any trekker can get altitude sickness while trekking in the high altitude despite strong physically fitness. What is important is giving enough time for the proper acclimatization for the trekking. Sunrise Adventure Trek has planned the itinerary with gradual altitude gain giving enough time for acclimatization for the trekkers. Hiking slowly specially in the high altitude help prevent AMS ( Acute Mountain Sickness ). If anyone feels dizzy, suffer palpitation or severe headaches and loss of appetite, he / she will be moved to the lower altitude immediately or arrange the helicopter rescue in the severe case of AMS and the client has to pay for it.

    A variety of clothing is necessary for the Tilicho Lake trek. While choosing the equipment trekkers need give emphasis on two simple aspects: Lightweight and Functional. The items should be lightweight, dependable, and adaptable to a variety of extreme weather conditions. The quality of the trekking equipment you choose has a lot to do with how warm, dry, and safe you will remain. For this reason you have to be critical of quality and the proper fit of clothing.

  • Porter Care

    We are strongly committed to the porters rights. We make sure that they are well paid and have the proper clothing, foot ware and shelter. We are aware that no porter should be asked to carry a load that is too heavy for their physical abilities and the weight limit should be adjusted for altitude, weather and trail condition. We request our members not to have more than 15 kg weight of luggage to give to the porters. Porters who become sick while in the trekking are treated with high priority just like the other trekking staff or the members. If needed helicopter is sent and rescued in case of sever condition of sickness or accident. All porters are insured for sickness and accident.
  • Season

    Nepal, as a tourist destination is good for all seasons, however, the best seasons for trekking to Annapurna region are Spring (March – May) and Autumn (mid Sept. – mid Dec. ). Trekking in autumn season is noted for clear weather and excellent views of silvery mountains against blue sky. It gets colder towards the end of December. This trek can be done in any month except January and February.
