Everest Base Camp Trek via Jiri is one of Nepal’s classic trekking trails that leads you to the world’s highest peak. This breathtaking trek in the Everest Region requires good walking experience and physical fitness. The trail passes through beautiful forests and villages, allowing you to experience the diverse art and cultures of the Gurung, Rai, Brahmin, Chhetri, and Magar people, and finally reach Lukla Airport, which serves as the gateway to all trekking and peak climbing trails in the Everest region.

When Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa summited Mount Everest in 1953, the trek gained popularity in the Everest region. The trekking lodges offer basic amenities and a variety of Western food options. The people in this area are known for being helpful and cooperative. This trek provides an exclusive panoramic view of Everest (8848m), Cho Oyu (8152m), Lhotse (8516m), Makalu (8463m), and Ama Dablam (6456m). You will also cross through the famous Sherpa villages of Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Khunde, and Khumjung, as well as visit various Buddhist monasteries.

Itinerary

Arrival in Kathmandu, our airport representatives will receive you there and transfer you to the hotel for the further briefing of the journey ahead.

After breakfast, we go for full day sightseeing and visit World Heritage Sites in the Kathmandu Valley which includes Swayambhunath Stupa / Monkey Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, and Pashupatinath Temple.

From Kathmandu, we take the drive to Jiri. You can enjoy the river Koshi and some of the majestic Himalayan views of mountains like Ganesh Himal, Langtang lieu, and Dorje Lakpa. This is also the starting point of our journey for trekking. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Today we start our trekking from Jiri. Following the deep forest some streams then pass along some villages of Dokarpa & Baranda, we reach to Sete after crossing a valley and climbing small settlement of village Kenja. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally overnight stay in trekking lodge.

From Sete we trek to Junbensi, it is 6 hours of walk offering panoramic views of green mountains, also we pass through Lamjura La Pass the highest point on the way to Jiri & Namche Bazar. In Junbesi we spend the day & overnight stay. You can visit the village & know little about the people in here. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally overnight stay in trekking lodge.

From Junbesi we trek to Nunthala taking approximately 6 hours. This tour is very mesmerizing with views of mountains including, Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu, Thamseruku, Mera Peak & many other high mountains. After crossing some of the villages, rhododendrons forests, terraced fields, we will finally arrive Nunthala for our overight stay. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally overnight stay in trekking lodge.

From Nunthalam, we trek around 5 hours before reaching Khari Khola, our destination for today's overnight stay. On the way we descend to Dudh Koshi, cross suspension bridge & overnight stay is at one of the densely packed areas with Rais & Sherpas. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally overnight stay in trekking lodge.

From Khari Khola, we are ready to trek to Surkhe enjoying the Khari La Pass of Gyachung Kang & Khumbila mountains among other mountains. Then, finally, after some ups & downs, we reach to Surkhe for the overnight stay. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally overnight stay in trekking lodge.

From Khari Khola, we walk for approximately 5 hours before reaching to Phakding, our destination for today. This is one of the most interesting & popular places, here we can camp by the river. Overnight stay in Phakding. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally overnight stay in trekking lodge.

From Phakding we trek to Namche Bazaar which is the famous touristic area in this region. The trek is mesmerizing with blue sky above and stunning boulders with great landscapes. Overnight is at Namche Bazaar. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Instead of sitting all day in Namche all day, the acclimatization is best done with the hike that is by hiking up to to the valley of Bhote Koshi River (“River from Tibet”). Today we will hike in the daytime and sightsee around Bazaar in the evening. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally overnight stay in trekking lodge.

The trek from Namche to Tengboche is unbelievably stunning, Far below is the Dudh Koshi and Thamserku, Kantenga, Ama Dablam, Lhotse and Everest rises in front. Woods, Rhododendron Forest, Mani Walls, Chorten (Stupas), and suspension bridges across the rivers make this a lovely walk. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Through Tyangbocke we trek to Dingboche, in Dingboche we can enjoy the scenic views of Ama Dablam. Dingboche is the only place in the region where barley is produced. Tame pheasants are regularly seen in this area. Overnight stay in here. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally overnight stay in trekking lodge.

The ascent towards Everest Base Camp continues through Alpine meadows and summer yak pastures towards the end of the moraine of the Khumbu Glacier. At the moraine, there are stone monuments to six sherpas who died in the avalanche, as well as monuments to other climbers. From here, it is a steep, tough climb towards the village of Gorak Shep. Continue on towards Lobuche, where the view is straight towards Nuptse and the sunset is truly magnificent. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally overnight stay in trekking lodge.

The higher altitude makes this day's trekking quite challenging. The Changri Glacier looms ahead as the trek heads for Gorakshep, a small, usually frozen, lake, by lunchtime. Relax and get adjusted to the altitude before the attempt to reach Everest Base Camp. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Try to see a different view of Everest today, with a trek up to Kala Pattar. Known to have the best views of Everest, this is a challenging trek, but worth it on a clear day. Begin the descent from Kala Pattar, heading for Pheriche. This is not the most challenging of hikes, but the altitude can make the many uphill sections below Gorakshep seem tough. Stop to look around; the views are quite spectacular. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Today we trek from Pheriche to Phortse, enjoying the stunning views of mountains finally reaching remote village Phortse. Our overnight stay is alt Phortse. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Again, we are back to Namche Bazaar this time you can buy special souvenirs in this area and may be taken al piece of memory back your home for your memory. Our overnight stay is at Namche. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally overnight stay in trekking lodge.

From Namche, we trek back to Lukla. It is around 7 hours of trek, surrounded by Mountains and great landscapes, we arrive Lukla for our overnight stay. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally overnight stay in trekking lodge.

We take the flight back to Kathmandu, enjoying the beautiful sceneries we conclude today's journey with cultural dinner program in the evening. Meals included: Breakfast and Dinner and finally overnight stay in hotel.

Today we shop around Kathmandu in Thamel. Maybe buy some souvenirs for friends and family at home or take rest and go to a spa.

  • Trekking Group Size

    We organize trekking for Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek for any number of people. If the group consists of more than 16 pax, we will split the group and arrange accordingly. We will assign one trek leader, one assistant leader for the group of four pax and porters (one porter between two members ) to carry members luggage. This arrangement ensures that the group can still go ahead as scheduled itinerary despite any member gets sick on the way in the trekking.
  • Experience and Health Requirements

    Jiri to Everest trekking ranges forms moderate to strenuous. And is suitable for those who can hike for 6 – 8 hours a day. Obviously hiking in the high altitude will not be so easy rather physically more demanding, however, our itinerary is scheduled for the proper acclimatization while gradually gaining the altitude in the trekking. It will be advisable to have some walking and hiking or other outdoor activities for more than two weeks which will contribute to comfortable accomplishment in reaching Jiri to Everest base camp. No technical skills or use of crampons are required for this trekking. It is highly recommended for the trekkers to consult with the doctors before coming for this trekking. Trekkers who have asthma, allergy or any other diseases related to hurt, lungs should take more precaution for this trekking.
  • Travel Insurance

    Trekkers need to have traveling insurance which covers the comprehensive expenses that might incur due to medical issues or accidents (this includes air ambulance, helicopter rescue, and medical treatment costs). Insurance companies in Nepal do not provide traveling insurance for the foreigners and the trekkers need to get the traveling insurance from one of the international insurance companies. Sunrise Adventure Trek will have accident insurance for the trekking staff.
  • Accommodations

    Accommodation in Kathmandu will be arranged on twin sharing basis on BB plan except the extra cost for the single supplement (depending on the room availability ) according to the choice of the standard of the hotels before and after the trekking. Accommodation during the trekking will be arranged at standard teahouses/ lodges with unheated rooms with wooden beds and foam mattresses on twin sharing basis. The trekkers will have to share washing and toilet facilities. If the trekker is a solo traveler, he/she will have to share a room with the trekker of same sex.
  • Meals

    Trekkers are provided three meals a day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) during Jiri to Everest base camp trekking. They can enjoy a wide variety of food from typical Nepali food, Sherpa food, Tibetan food to all types of international cuisine (Continental, Italian, and Indian.). Unlike other trekking companies, Sunrise Adventure Trek allows trekkers to choose the food from the menu at the hotel/lodges in the trek. When the group is too big for the hotels/ lodges to provide individual dishes, a set menu will be arranged in most places. We use the lodges/hotels which serve hygienic, nutritious and good food for the trekkers for them to get enough energy for the hiking.
  • Acclimatization

    Any trekker can get altitude sickness while trekking in the high altitude despite strong physical fitness. What is important is giving enough time for the proper acclimatization for the trekking. Sunrise Adventure Trek has planned the itinerary with gradual altitude gain giving enough time for acclimatization for the trekkers. Hiking slowly especially at the high altitude help prevent AMS ( Acute Mountain Sickness ). If anyone feels dizzy, suffer palpitation or severe headaches and loss of appetite, he / she will be moved to the lower altitude immediately or arrange the helicopter rescue in the severe case of AMS and the client has to pay for it.

    A variety of clothing is necessary for the Jiri to Everest base camp trek. While choosing the equipment trekkers to need to give emphasis on two simple aspects: Lightweight and Functional. The items should be lightweight, dependable, and adaptable to a variety of extreme weather conditions. The quality of the trekking equipment you choose has a lot to do with how warm, dry, and safe you will remain. For this reason, you have to be critical of quality and the proper fit of clothing.

  • Porter Care

    We are strongly committed to the porter's rights. We make sure that they are well paid and have the proper clothing, footwear, and shelter. We are aware that no porter should be asked to carry a load that is too heavy for their physical abilities and the weight limit should be adjusted for altitude, weather and trail condition. We request our members not to have more than 15 kg weight of luggage to give to the porters. Porters who become sick while in the trekking are treated with high priority just like the other trekking staff or the members. If the needed helicopter is sent and rescued in case of the severing condition of sickness or accident. All porters are insured for sickness and accident.
  • Season

    Nepal, as a tourist destination is good for all seasons, however, the best seasons for trekking to Everest region are Spring (March-May) and Autumn (mid-Sept. – mid-Dec.). Trekking in autumn season is noted for clear weather and excellent views of silvery mountains against a blue sky. It gets colder towards the end of December. This trek can be done in any month except January and February. Jiri to Everest base camp trekking can be done even during the monsoon season but not recommended. There a few avalanches prone area in this trekking route which makes it dangerous for trekking in the winter season.
