Tourism is newly rising in Tibet. Finding good accommodation is the main issue while you are travelling to Tibet. Lhasa and Shigatse have the best optional hotel in Tibet. Most part of Tibet offers good hotels and lodges while you travel to Tibet. Only Lhasa has some of the international chain hotels like Sheraton and St. Regis; the services and facilities are 4 to 5-star categories.
Although, out of Lhasa and Shigatse of Tibet, you can find standard and basic accommodation. Lhasa, Gyantse, and Shigatse have better 4 to 5-star hotels in Tibet.
So you have to make sure about your stay. Even in Rongbuk, Tingri, and EBC area have a simple guest house having a public bathroom and sharing toilet. The next hotel in Nagri Tibet is normal and some standard hotel. Ngari is the western part of Tibet which includes the Mount Kailash Mansarovar area which has normal food and accommodation.
How is accommodation during Mt. Kailash, Mansarovar Kora Yatra?
While you are doing Kora in Mt. Kailash, your accommodation is quite basic. Your all accommodation is in basic guesthouses not having electricity, heating system, even sometimes the generator goes off at night time. You will have dorms and sharing toilet bathroom room. But we Sunrise Adventure Treks will try to book good accommodation and food for our guests. However, below Darchen you will have both normal and standard hotels available. Hotels in Nagqu, Tibet have good accommodation in a 2/3-star level hotel with a good restaurant. Hotels in Nyingchi and Shannan Tibet have some 3 to 4-star categories with nice restaurants and providing varieties of meals too.
How are Meals in Tibet?
Food is the main important information to know while you are travelling to Tibet, Kailash. The main crop of Tibet is barley. Tibet has various types of meals to eat. Tibetan restaurants and hotels in the city area offer different cuisine to the travellers. Barley is the main dominating crop all around Tibet due to the high altitude topographical region, producing barley is quite common here.
Similarly, Tibetan cuisine is also widely influenced by neighbouring dishes like Chinese, Nepalese, and Indian cuisine. So you can easily find such different international cuisines in Tibetan restaurants in cities. Tsampa is the main national dish of the Tibetan people. Tsampa is roasted barley flour, mixed with butter, dried crumbled cheese, and tea. While they cook, Tsampa is very tasty and flavorful to eat. Tsampa is a very important meal in Tibet. Momo can be either veg or non-veg or mix Momo. Tibetan noodles/Thukpa, Yak cheese, and butter tea are the common meals in Tibet.
