Arun Valley trek is the best choice for peace trekkers. This route is less crowded and the fascinating part is that; Arun valley resides between the world’s highest mountain – Everest and Makalu-Barun National Park. The national park is enlisted to have more than 650 species of birds and over 800 different species of butterflies. It also shelters rare and endangered animal Panda and other rare plants as well. In addition this trail offers amazing views of Mt. Everest, Mt. Makalu, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Baruntse, Mt. Amadablam, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Thamserku and many others. We reach Barun La Pass as 4110 meters and get a closer view of Mount Makalu. The main settlers of this region are Sherpa, Rai, and Limbus. Moreover, different people following their own cultures distinct beliefs, languages, and norms. Arun Valley Trek provides you the beautiful exploration of Khumbu region in western part of Nepal. Our trip starts from Kathmandu. First, we round off Kathmandu valley by visiting some of the historically important heritages and we take a flight to Tumlingtar. We start our first trek from here and reach Marduna. Even though, trail starts to get exciting and usual as we walk further and further. Therefore when we reach Dobani, we can already sense isolation and take a rocky trek to Salpa Phedi. The view from here is great and the hospitality of the villagers are amazing. We trek to Guranse and along the way, pass rhododendron forest and get to see colorful grassy lands and meadows. From Guranse, it is all the way to Sanam – in this trail we have to cross Salpa La Pass at 3350 and cross rhododendron forest.However, trek is steep from Sanal and we have to cross bridges to reach Bung – a tiny Rai Village. We cross Pangum La pass and experience a great view of Mera peak as we come closer to Painya. Although from Painya, we trek to Lukla and leave isolated villages’ village. In Lukla, you can either take rest or visit nearby Monasteries. Now, it is finally time to head back to the civilization of Kathmandu.

Itinerary

Welcome to Nepal – the Mystical Land of Himalayas! Our airport representatives pick you up from the airport and transfer you to designated Hotel and you are given short description related to the upcoming trip. You can meet the guides and other staffs as well.

We do sightseeing around Kathmandu. Sightseeing includes tour around Swayambhunath (monkey temple), Bauddhanath (Bouddhastupa), Pashupatinath/Biggest Hindu Temple & Patan Durbar Square. In the evening, we prepare for the coming trek and double check every documents, clothing and required equipments.

We take early morning flight to Tumlingtar. The flight is pretty picturesque with views of Lush hills, valley, gorges and views of Himalayas. We drive to our hotel – you can take rest or roam around the town to get familiar with the environment. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

We trail along the river bed of Arun River and reach Balwa Besi for our luch. This is our first trek of the trip, so we can experience that the surrounding is really exciting and views are unusual with its own uniqueness. We trek through dense forest to reach Marduna. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

We climb uphill though the trail of forest and get to see amazing green forest and gorges. The trail is peace with fewer crowds and after we reach the top of the hill, we descend down to Chikhuwa Khola and eat lunch at Ghote Bazaar – it is populated small town. From here, it is steady walk to Dobani. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

We take another uphill walk and cross many small streams. We reach Tallo Phedi for lunch and further clilmb up to Salpa Phedi. It is very nice place with enough tea houses and the hospitality they deliver is as tasty as their food. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

We take rocky trail to the top of the hill. The views are tranquil and breathtaking from the top. As we walk through the route of forest, the sun can penetrate the forest and the landscape is full of colorful grassland and meadows. We reach toward rhododendron forest and walk till we reach Guranse. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Today’s trail is a tough one and we cross a pass. We first ascend from Guranse to reach at the top of the Salpa La Pass at 3350 meters. After the successful climb, we descend down to Dhaka. Dhaka is great place with nice lodges and different menu to choose from. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

We take steep down trail and it is pretty difficult. Our first stop is at Guidel for lunch and then we trek down to Hongu Khola. We cross a bridge and climb up, the trail passes terraced hill and small Rai village of Bung. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

We take short trek to Boskam Gompa to complement our previous strenuous journey. The trail for today is uphill and reaches Boskam Gompa. It is a nice village influenced by spirituality. We take rest in the village and also learn the local culture. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

We leave Boskam village behind and pass the Gaikharka through untidy jungle and reach Hinku Khola. The journey covers grassy land. We cross a long suspension bridge over Hinku Khola and take straight climb to the vertical valley of Sibuje, which is also famed as Vasme. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

We pass a small Vasne village and we trek through rhododendron forest. We have to cross Pangum La Pass and from the top of the pass; enjoy amazing view of Mera peak. We walk for a bit from the Pass and reach Pangum. The hospitality they provide and less tourists makes the stay worthwhile. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

The day of trailing through the isolated villages of mountains ends. It is our last day in the remote area. We take some ups and downs and complete some challenging trails. We even cross Kari La Pass at 3145 and take steep downhill to reach Painy and conclude our trek. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

Leaving behind Painya – a beautiful village overlooking tributary of Dudh Koshi River, we join regular trail and reach Lukla. The trail passes some Sherpa villages and we have to cross some bridges. At Lukla, you can take rest but it is better to walk around and learn local culture as well as visit monarteries. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner and finally an overnight stay in trekking lodge.

We take scenic flight back to Kathmandu. And maybe you can do shopping or buy souvenirs for your friends and family. Or better you can relax, have some massage and dine the best meals of the city in some of the best restaurants. Meals included: Breakfast,and finally an overnight stay in hotel. Attend the evening dinner and cultural program provided by the company.

After successful completion of the trip, our representative drops you off to the airport for your further journey. You are delivered to the airport approximately 3 hours before the departure so that there may not be any delays. Have a safe journey!

Frequently Asked Question

  • Trekking Group Size

    We organize trekking in Kanchenjunga region for any number of people. If the group consists of more than 16 pax, we will split the group and arrange accordingly. We will assign one trek leader, one assistant leader for the group of four pax and porters (one porter between two members ) to carry members luggage. This arrangement ensures that the group can still go ahead as scheduled itinerary despite any member gets sick on the way in the trekking.
  • Experience and Health Requirements

    Kanchenjunga trekking is considered a moderate trek suitable for those who can hike for 5 – 7 hours a day. Obviously hiking in the high altitude will not be so easy rather physically more demanding, however our itinerary is scheduled for the proper acclimatization while gradually gaining the altitude in the trekking. It will be advisable to have some walking and hiking or other outdoor activities for more than two weeks which will contribute to comfortable accomplishment in reaching Kanchenjunga No technical skills or use of crampons are required for this trekking. It is highly recommended for the trekkers to consult with the doctors before coming for this trekking. Trekkers who have asthma, allergy or any other diseases related to hurt, lungs should take more precaution for this trekking.
  • Travel Insurance

    Trekkers need to have traveling insurance which covers the comprehensive expenses that might incur due to medical issues or accidents (this includes air ambulance, helicopter rescue, and medical treatment costs). Insurance companies in Nepal do not provide travelling insurance for the foreigners and the trekkers need to get the travelling insurance from one of the international insurance companies. Sunrise Adventure Trek will have accident insurance for the trekking staff.
  • Accommodations

    Accommodation in Kathmandu will be arranged on twin sharing basis on BB plan except the extra cost for the single supplement (depending on the room availability ) according to the choice of the standard of the hotels before and after the trekking. Accommodation during the trekking will be arranged at standard teahouses/ lodges with unheated rooms with wooden beds and foam mattresses on twin sharing basis. The trekkers will have to share washing and toilet facilities. If the trekker is a solo traveler, he/she will have to share a room with the trekker of same sex.
  • Meals

    Trekkers are provided three meals a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner) during Kanchenjunga trekking. They can enjoy wide variety of food from typical Nepali food, Tibetan food to all types of international cuisine (Continental, Italian, and Indian.). Unlike other trekking companies, Sunrise AdventureTrek allows trekkers to choose the food from the menu at the hotel / lodges in the trek. When the group is too big for the hotels/ lodges to provide individual dishes, set menu will be arranged in most places. We use the lodges / hotels which serve hygienic, nutritious and good food for the trekkers for them to get enough energy for the hiking.
  • Acclimatization

    Any trekker can get altitude sickness while trekking in the high altitude despite strong physically fitness. What is important is giving enough time for the proper acclimatization for the trekking. Sunrise Adventure Trek has planned the itinerary with gradual altitude gain giving enough time for acclimatization for the trekkers. Hiking slowly specially in the high altitude help prevent AMS ( Acute Mountain Sickness ). If anyone feels dizzy, suffer palpitation or severe headaches and loss of appetite, he / she will be moved to the lower altitude immediately or arrange the helicopter rescue in the severe case of AMS and the client has to pay for it.

    A variety of clothing is necessary for the Kanchenjunga trek. While choosing the equipment trekkers need give emphasis on two simple aspects: Lightweight and Functional. The items should be lightweight, dependable, and adaptable to a variety of extreme weather conditions. The quality of the trekking equipment you choose has a lot to do with how warm, dry, and safe you will remain. For this reason you have to be critical of quality and the proper fit of clothing.

  • Porter Care

    We are strongly committed to the porters rights. We make sure that they are well paid and have the proper clothing, foot ware and shelter. We are aware that no porter should be asked to carry a load that is too heavy for their physical abilities and the weight limit should be adjusted for altitude, weather and trail condition. We request our members not to have more than 15 kg weight of luggage to give to the porters. Porters who become sick while in the trekking are treated with high priority just like the other trekking staff or the members. If needed helicopter is sent and rescued in case of sever condition of sickness or accident. All porters are insured for sickness and accident.
  • Season

    Nepal, as a tourist destination is good for all seasons, however, the best seasons for trekking to Kanchenjunga region are Spring (March – May) and Autumn (mid Sept. – mid Dec. ). Trekking in autumn season is noted for clear weather and excellent views of silvery mountains against blue sky. It gets colder towards the end of December. This trek can be done in any month except January and February
