- Southeast route:
This route starts from the southern side of Mt. Everest at an elevation of 5,380m (17,700ft.). Starting the trip from Kathmandu including Namche Bazaar on the trail and then to the high camp, which takes nearly 6 to 8 days refers southeast route.
- Northeast route:
Similarly, the northeast route starts from the northern side of Mt. Everest which belongs to the Tibetan Plateau at an elevation of 5180m (16990ft.). The common spot that both routes contain is the summit itself.
3. How long does it take to climb Mount Everest?
Entire climbing including the Base Camp and summit takes around 6 to 8 weeks. You can reach the Base Camp in 9 to 12 days at 5364 m (17388 ft.). You have to walk from 5 to 6 hours each day during the trial.
Interesting Insight-
There was a dispute regarding Mt. Everest’s height between China and Nepal which lasted from 2005 to 2010. Nepal claimed its height as 8848 meters and China claimed only 8844 meters. Why the difference? Because China measured only up to the rock of Everest and Nepal included the pile of snow too. But later in 2010, the final agreement was made between the two countries and set it to 8848 meters as its official height. And Nepal still recognizes its rock height as 8844 meters.
Expeditions over Mountain for the first time:
The first early attempt in the history of Mt. Everest climbing was made in 1924, June 8 by George Mallory and Andrew Irvine through the Northern face of Everest but unfortunately, they never returned back. Then in 1953, the second successful attempt was made by a Nepali Sherpa climber, Tenzing Norgay, and the New Zealander Edmund Hillary as a part of the British expedition. Many climbers, foreigners climb Everest every year.
On 16 May 1975, Junko Tabei became the first women to reach the summit of Mount Everest with her Sherpa guide.
In 1978, Peter Habeler and Reinhold Messner climbed Mount Everest without the use of supplemental oxygen canisters. And again in 1980, Reinhold Messner climbed Everest through the northern side route alone and without the use of Supplement oxygen canisters.
Similarly, in 1935, Alison Hargreaves made the women attempt over the mountain without the use of supplemental oxygen through the northern trail alone.

Oldest and the youngest climbers to Mount Everest?

5. The name “Mount Everest” with accurate height:
Nepalese “Sagarmatha” and Tibetan “Chomolungma” is also known as “Everest”. But have you ever thought about the formation of the worldwide name “Mount Everest”? Everest was named after “George Everest”, the Surveyor General of India in 1856. As in 1841, George Everest recorded the location of Everest and Andrew Waugh declared the height of Everest was 8840m/29002 ft. Similarly, teams from Denmark, Italy, China, India and the United States measured different heights of the mountain. But the most favourable height of Everest became 8848 m/ 29029 ft. in 1955, declared by the Indian survey.
6. What physical do I need to be for Everest region trekking?

Though being a difficult grade of the level, a reasonable level of fitness is required for trekking. Walking from 5 to 6 hours each day takes you to an elevation of 5364m (17598.43ft).
7. Did people climb over Mt. Everest?
After the successful attempt made by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa in 1953, many people reached the summit. More than 4,000 people ascended the summit and 100 vanished. From 2017, 5280 summits are ascended by the climbers including 181 deaths from the southern ridge. Similarly, from the northern trail 3026 summits are ascended including 107 deaths in 2017.

Many climbers die every year on the mountain, mainly in the “Death Zone” where the level of oxygen is very low for human beings to breathe. “Death Zone” starts above 8000m. Many of the climbers die in this region. The overall fatality rate of climbers on Everest is 1.6 %.
Notable deaths over the Mountain:
George Mallory: During 1924, George Mallory and Andrew Irvin climbed Everest from the North East route and disappeared. They were the earliest climber, made the first attempt over the mountain but unfortunately never came back. In 1999, Conrad Anker from Mallory and Irvin Research Expedition found the dead body of George Mallory at 26760 ft. below the place where Irvine’s axe was found at 27760 ft.
Hannelore Schmatz: Hannelore Schmatz is one of the successful climbers, who ascended the summit in 1979 with her husband but unfortunately she’d never came back. However, it is believed that the main cause of her death is exhaustion and exposure to the cold at 27,200 ft. which is also called a death zone. According to many experts, Schmatz rests down against her backpack in the death zone and fell asleep then never woke up again.
Green Boots: “Green Boots” refers to the name given to an Indian climber Tsewang Paljor who climbed Everest from North-east ridge in 1996 and died there. The dead body was curled in the limestone alcove cave. The name is derived from the mountaineering boots worn by him during his expedition. Cave, where the dead body was found, is also known as “Green Boot’s Cave”.
David Sharp: A 35 years old English mountaineer who climbed Mount Everest on 2006, May 15, perished in “Green Boot’s Cave” because of Hypothermia.

How to get there?

Everest, for a minimum of 12 days from Kathmandu to Lukla flight( 140 km), and then to the beautiful and main trading centre of the Khumbu region known as Namche Bazaar. After this, we have to hike up to the valley over the Bhote Koshi River to Khumjung. Exploring the beautiful sceneries around us, passing the amazing monasteries Thyangbochey, Dingboche by the flat field below the Kalapatthar called Gorakshep we reached the base camp. At last, returning back to Kathmandu, our trek completed.

11. What’s the best season for trekking to Everest?
